Henderson, Donald Gene
Carl Maria von Weber : a guide to research
New York: Garland, 1990, 385 p.

This is what Donald Gene Henderson had to say:

Stresses the importance in Weber's operas of the tableau vivant, a favorite literary device among Romantics. Points out that Weber deleted planned tableaux in Der Freischutz and Euryanthe, but the Wolfsschlucht tableau was the real reason for the original success of the opera.
