Corrects some errors in previous Weber research and describes his work currently in progress on the preparation of a complete edition of Weber's letters. Points out that recently discovered sources show that Weber's father played an important role in promoting his son's education and career. Shows that Max Maria von Weber apparently exaggerated the story of Weber's arrest and confinement in Stuttgart and suppressed other information. Other parts of his account of this event appear to have no documentary basis. Stresses the need for a careful study of neglected material in the Weberiana collection of the Deutsche Staatsbibliothek.
